On Public Health Epidemiology Conversations, we welcome back one of our earliest guests, Dr. Juanita Braxton, to discuss how she makes use of faith-based organizations to educate communities on public health. Meet Dr. Braxton


Currently, Dr. Braxton is the Executive Director of Imani Consultants PhD, a non-profit focused on faith-based community health education and community service. She retired from the University of California, Davis Health System in 2021 after 27 years of service as the Administrative Director of Surgical Education, focusing on graduate medical education. An Air Force Veteran, wife of 42 years with two sons and one daughter.


Dr. Braxton has a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Behavioral Sciences; a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Organizational Management; Doctor of Theology; an Education Specialist Degree from Liberty University with a Teaching and Learning Specialization (Thesis Topic: Disabled Students Post-Secondary Assessment Tools – Problems and Successes) and a Ph.D. in Public Health – Community Health (Dissertation topic: Health Care Provider Perceptions of High Blood Pressure Screening for Asymptomatic African American Teens). Her research passions include health disparities and adolescent health and wellness.


Dr. Braxton's current work includes working with the faith-based community to share health and wellness tips and strategies for healthy living amongst congregations and people of faith. Currently an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Maryland Global Campus. Dr. Braxton is a member of the following organizations: National Officer with Alpha Lambda Beta Sorority, Incorporated, a member of Pi Eta Delta Sorority: the International PHD Sisters Association, a peer reviewer for the American Public Health Association (APHA), a holder of a K-12 California Substitute Teaching Credential; a Certified Training Administrator in Graduate Medical Education and a Business and Personal Coach.


Dr. Braxton is still passionate about encouraging and inspiring others to live out their life’s goals; stay focused and attuned to your heart, it never leads you astray. Inspiring minds continues to be a personal goal of hers. Education must be personal to be effective – every path to attainment is individual and personal. Never compare your journey to others, yours is for you alone. A famous author once said, “Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.”
